Kartik Swami Temple is a temple dedicated to the eldest son of Lord Shiva, Kartikeya. It is located near the Kanakchauri Village in Rudraprayag District. The temple is located at the top of small hill which can be reached via short trek from Kanakchauri Village. The top of the temple offers some stunning views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges.

Dedicated to the elder son of Lord Shiva, Kartikeya, it is believed that he offered his body and gave his bones to Lord Shiva as symbol of his devotion to him. He is mostly revered in South India as Kartik Murugan Swami .

You need to climb about 80 stairs from the road to reach the temple main sanctum where the idol of Lord Kartikeya is placed. You will notice hundreds of bells inside the temple premise which can be heard from the bottom of hill too. There is a small aarti daily during evening and also number of festivals and feasts are organised here all over the year.

How to Reach

 Well connected by roads is the temple of Kartik Swami. Also available are interstate buses from ISBT Anand Vihar (Delhi) to Srinagar, Rudraprayag and Rishikesh. You can also hire a taxi or cab to Kanak Chauri. You’ll have to undergo a 3km trek in order to reach Temple Kartik Swami once you reach Kanak Chauri.

Jolly Grant Airport is the closest airport from the place of Dehradun that is around 192km away from the place. To reach Rudraprayag one can board a cab or taxi from the airport.

One has to take a train to either Rishikesh or Haridwar railway station that are closest railway stations towards Rudraprayag which is located at a distance of around 138km and 160km respectively in order to reach the temple through railway network.

Shree krishna resort is a budget hotel located in Kanakchauri Village which is the starting point of trekking to the famous Kartikswami Temple. It is perfectly located near the trek route and offers beautiful views of the Himalayan ranges.

Best time for the trek

Summer Season

Here the summer seasons starts in the month of April till June. The whole witnesses abundance of rhododendron that one can easily get to see on the trekking way during the month of March and April.

Monsoon Season

During July to September months experience heavy rainfall along with the whole state the Rudraprayag state. Along with opportunities of road blockage heavy rainfall makes trekking very difficult. You will notice rich vegetation here in August and September month.

Winter Season

Here the commencement of winter season is the October month that lasts till March. Between November and January month offers the majestic and clear view of range of snow- clad Himalayas.
